Fall 2020 SW USA Course for Online/Remote HS and college students

Announcing our Fall 2020 Sport Climbing Course for REMOTE/ONLINE Students

We're getting the wheels in motion for a 6-week performance sport climbing course in the SW United States specifically designed for 100% remote and online students ages 16 and up. This program is ideal for high school juniors, seniors, and 1st-2nd year college students. It might also be appropriate for those in this age range who are taking a gap year. Details are being finalized and will continue to solidify as we engage potential recruits. The proposed course looks like this:

Dates: October 17 - November 29, 2020. Dates are flexible and subject to change based on final enrollement.
Locations: Lander, Wyoming for weeks 1-4, then St. George UT for the remainder. Locations TBD based on accommodation availability (see below).
Climbing emphasis: single pitch sport climbing on dolomite and limestone with difficulties in the 5.11-5.14 range.
Athletic coaching/mentoring emphasis: long-term athletic development, cold-weather projecting, advanced risk management, stewardship.
Ages: 15+; must be a high school sophomore. Freshman will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Ability: must be confident onsighting (on lead) at a minimum of 5.11-.
Accommodation: rental housing.
Daily itinerary: M-F will include a set schedule for schooling, according to the needs of each student. The climbing schedule will include 2-3 after school sessions (3-4 hours) during the week, with weekend days being full crag sessions (6-8 hours). As the days get shorter, less time will be allotted for climbing, whereupon the group will focus more on projecting. Other activities include consistent yoga practice, walking/running/hiking, and some sight-seeing. The group will attempt to participate in stewardship activities at the areas in which we are climbing.
Internet: finding comfortable and quiet accommodation with strong wifi will be a critical component of this program. Mobile hotspots might also be used. In any case, the program will spend its non-climbing time in areas where strong 4LTE signal is present.
Schooling: oversight, encouragement, and consistency will be provided, in order to establish an appropriate environment for learning.
Tuition: $4750 for six weeks - includes room & board, most meals, coaching, group equipment, and on-ground transportation. A pro-rated tuition will be available for shortened duration.
Start & ending location: most likely Bozeman, MT, but TBD.
Staff: Aaron Hjelt and others as needed. Upper level college/uni students (21+) who are completely online are encouraged to inquire regarding mentorship opportunities.
Group size: no larger than 7 total (including staff).
COVID-19 risk management plan: for all intents and purposes, this group will function as a "quarantine" family. We will minimize interaction with others, and follow all state and national guidelines to minimize spread and contact. We feel that we can operate safely. A full plan will be available as requested.

Please help us spread the word about this opportunity. If you're interested, get in touch as soon as possible for details and application.

I'm really hoping I can provide a few of you an engaging and fulfilling climbing opportunity during this challenging time. -Aaron
